The 142-metre Lürssen superyacht Alibaba has successfully completed her sea trials. Launched in December 2023, the yacht began sea trials early last week near Brunsbüttel, Germany and returned to the shipyard earlier this week.

Designed by German Frers, Alibaba features naval architecture crafted in-house by her German shipyard Lürssen, with interior design crafted by Nauta Design. Alibaba exhibits Lürssen's signature an elongated bow, complete with angular contours and striking exterior elements.

Boasting four expansive decks that fuse sophistication with a military-like edge, Alibaba features large exterior decks, with her aft deck spanning nearly half of her profile.

Alibaba garnered attention last year when a technical failure of the dock gate forced water out of the dock, pushing her bow into the dock curtain as a consequence. As a result of this, Alibaba was prematurely launched by Lürssen in December 2023.

"Alibaba is a proud testament to Lürssen's ability to build yachts driven by the creative and challenging requirements set by our owners," added Peter Lürssen, CEO of Lürssen.

 Regarding her propulsion system, Alibaba is equipped with a highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept that combines diesel-propulsion technology with efficient modern electric propulsion systems.

Her system consists of two diesel engines that drive two controllable pitch propellers through individual gearboxes, equipped with PTI/PTO units that can be used for either electric propulsion or generating electrical energy to operate Alibaba.

Alibaba is also equipped with an electric Azimuth Pod Drive, which in electric mode can be used either separately, or together with the other propulsion components to generate the top speed. Alibaba is scheduled for delivery later this year.

According to Superyacht iQ, other in-build superyachts by Lürssen include the 134.2-metre yacht Deep Blue, due for delivery in 2025, as well as the 114.2-metre Cosmos, and 102.4-metre JassJ.
