Charlotte, North Carolina’s Priciest Home Selling for $8.75 Million

A former U.S. congressman built the Versailles-inspired mansion.

The most expensive home on the market in Charlotte, North Carolina, is this newly listed Versailles-inspired country club residence asking $8.75 million.

Ideal for golf fans, the five-bedroom estate is on the 14th fairway of the acclaimed and exclusive Quail Hollow Club, home to the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship, and where initiation fees reportedly run to $100,000 and monthly dues clock in at $800 per month.

Styled after an 18th-century chateau, the property "epitomizes grandeur and attention to detail," according to the listing with Linwood Bolles and Valérie Dulude of Premier Sotheby's International Realty's Charlotte office, which put the home on the market on Monday.

The home is being sold by Robert Pittenger, a former U.S. congressman, and his wife, Suzanne. Pittenger, 75, a Republican who was the representative for North Carolina's 9th congressional district from 2013 to 2019. They acquired the underlying property for $1.675 million in 2006, records with PropertyShark show. The house was built in 2009. The Pittengers couldn't be reached for comment.

The "palatial" spread, which spans more than 10,500 square feet, "offers an enviable lifestyle characterized by sophisticated country club living," the agents said in a statement.

A marble-floored foyer with a soaring ceiling and a sweeping staircase leads into the home, which boasts wall paneling, ornate moldings and columns.

There are also sitting rooms, a spacious kitchen, a formal dining room with hardwood parquet floors, a sunroom, a study, a 265-bottle wine cellar and an elevator.

Outside, the property sprawls over an acre of land, and has a manicured garden, a pool and a four-car garage.
