Crypto Entrepreneur Snags Deal on Glitzy Benedict Canyon Oasis

Last year, crypto entrepreneur Bob Ras dropped $16.5 million on a mansion high in the mountains above Beverly Hills. Now his longtime business partner Reza Bashash has joined him in the same neighborhood, settling on a lavish resort-style compound in Benedict Canyon. First listed last September for $16.5 million, the price was reduced a total of four times before going to Bashash at a substantially discounted $10.8 million.

Bashash — co-founder with Ras of Sologenic, a blockchain-based ecosystem headquartered in Dubai, and Coreum, a blockchain network — now holds the keys to a European-style villa that was built in the 1940s, but has since been extensively remodeled and expanded. The seller was Bahamian businessman-turned-filmmaker David Grovic (aka David Haring), who paid $13.1 million for the place in 2016.

Tucked away behind a particularly lengthy gated driveway — on over an acre of land sitting directly below and adjacent to the property where actress/model Sharon Tate and four others were murdered by members of the Manson family back in the late 1960s — the compound includes a main house, plus a guesthouse — for a total of seven bedrooms and an equal number of baths spread across 7,800 square feet of living space providing city lights and ocean views. Highlights include an office suite that opens to the outdoors, a movie theater and gym, along with smart-home and security systems.

As for the primary three-story structure, an entrance foyer displays a winding staircase. Beyond that are formal dining and living rooms, the latter of which has a wall of glass doors spilling out to a secluded backyard hosting a lagoon-style pool with a waterfall, as well as al fresco entertaining spots, and a seated bar and fire-pit lounge area. Back inside, a family room with fireplace sits adjacent to a gourmet kitchen, which sports an expansive eat-in island and high-end stainless appliances.

Secluded all by itself upstairs is a massive master retreat, which boasts a fireside sitting area, private balcony, dressing room topped by an elaborate spoke-style wood-beam ceiling interspersed with skylights, and spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and rain shower. There also are three en-suite bedrooms on the first floor; and other features making this property especially alluring include the aforementioned guesthouse with two separate suites, which rests atop one of the separate two-car garages on the premises.

The listing was held by Brooke A. Elliott and Aaron Kirman of AKG | Christie's; Austin Shake and Heather Altman of Douglas Elliman of California repped the buyer.
