Spanish government to seize Russian-owned 85m Lürssen superyacht Meridian A (ex Valerie)
The 85.1-metre Lürssen superyacht Meridian A (ex. Valerie) was one of the first Russian-owned yachts to be arrested, following Joe Biden's State of the Union address on 2 March 2022. Meridian A was arrested less than two weeks after the address and has been immobilised at MB92 Barcelona ever since.
According to new findings published by Bloomsberg, her owner stopped paying maintenance fees in June. MB92 allegedly lodged a complaint, which the Spanish government is now acting upon. The report states that a court order was passed down by a Barcelona judge on Wednesday to seize the superyacht.
Meridian A was scheduled for maintenance at MB92 Barcelona, but once placed under arrest it was deemed a criminal act to conduct work or power the engines to move the vessel. Interestingly, her name change from Valerie to Meridian A occurred since her arrest.
According to Bloomberg, the Spanish government also has two other superyachts under arrest: Lürssen's 135-metre Crescent and Sensation Yachts' 47.73-metre Lady Anastasia, which was sabotaged in February by the chief engineer. But, according to the report, the owners of both of these vessels are keeping up with their payments, unlike Meridian A.
